John Schlitter and Sara Kay (SK) Carrell head out for the Race Across America!
From SK:
We are leaving for San Diego on Friday afternoon....have to be in San Diego on Sunday 19th.  The soloist racers start on the 19th.  The team racers leave at 2:00pm PST from Balboa Park, San Diego on the 21st.

John is one racer of a 4-man team for Team ALS-Bacchetta.  ALS stands for Arterial Lateral Sclerosis (spelling right? or Lou Gehrig's disease) is the benefiting foundation of any money contributed and raised by the 4 racers of the team.  Bacchetta is sponsoring the team with the Bacchetta Aero, the titanium race recumbent.  So far to date, ALS-Bacchetta has raised about $19,000...all benefiting ALS, as far as I know.  Also, there is a $25,000 prize purse to the first finishing recumbent team!!!  And the team has pledged to donate all of that prize money to ALS if they win!  And keep in mind that the very first team to finish last year was a recumbent team!  And they won by several hours, too!

More information coming soon!

June 01, 2005-
Cameron Chambers (CKMBC honorary member from Great Bend, Kansas)
Wins 24-Hour NORBA National Championship

Memorial Day, May 30th, Cameron Chambers won his first National Championship at the NORBA 24-Hour race in Spokane, Washington. All of the top 24-Hour Mountain Bike racers were in attendance including Tinker Juarez, Chris Etough and Cameron’s teammate Nat Ross (Subaru-Gary Fisher).

From the start of the race, Cameron’s strategy had been to let Chris and Tinker move ahead and to later reel them back in. The first lap proved to be the most brutal – Chris, Nat and Tinker set an impossible-to-follow race pace. Intense heats hovering around 90 degrees proved to be a large battle for these top contenders. By the third sub-hour lap, Tinker Juarez had dropped and abandoned the race for good. Later, Nat Ross was pushed out of contention after he suffered a crash, which knocked him out. Chris Etough maintained a lead until the early evening hours when he began to experience blurred vision, nausea, and paralyzing cramps – symptoms of hyponatrenia and a result of over-hydration during the hot afternoon.

Heading into lap ten, Cameron took over the lead. He maintained his pace and captured his first national championship title for 24-hour solo racing – a huge achievement and career highlight.

Congratulations to Cameron Chambers – the 24-Hour NORBA National Champion of ‘05.

Cameron Chambers is coached by CTS Pro Coach Jason Tullous.

May 08, 2005- Tonight we had approximately 35 very eager beaver cub scouts at our bike rally in Lindsborg. I want to say a hearty thank you to Mark, Terry and Brian for helping out with the bike mechanicing (I'm not sure that is a real word, if it is I probably didn't spell it right). Each bike got a good checking over. The kids took part in a 150 foot parallel line ride, long distance race, snake ride, hand signal and emergency stop excersizes, hill climb and bike soccer. Thanks again fellahs.

May 07, 2005 - Congrats to John Schlitter and Sara Kay Carrell for their second place finish at the Wasco Wild West 75!
